Business Profile

Technický a Skúšobný Ústav Stavebný, n. o. (Building Testing and Research Institute) as a non-profit organization is registered at the Regional Office in Bratislava under no. OVVS-674/22/2002/NO in the Register of Non-profit Organizations on 4 November 2002. However origin of the Institute goes back to the year 1953. Since that time its staff has been testing and assessing suitability and quality of construction products and providing other services for Slovak building industry. Currently 160 employees operate in the Head Office in Bratislava and in 8 Branch Offices of the Institute located in Bratislava, Nove Mesto nad Vahom, Nitra, Zvolen, Žilina, Košice, Prešov and Tatranská Štrba.
Founders of the Institute as of a non-profit organization are the Ministry of Construction and Regional Development of the Slovak Republic and a group of employees of the Institute. The founders affect the operation of the Institute through the Board of Directors and the Supervisory Board. The head of the Institute is the Director appointed by the Board of Directors.

Institute Activities

In the area of "Construction products":

  • As the Approval Body OM 04, member of EOTA, - technical approval of construction products - issuing of European Technical Aprovals (ETA) and National Technical Approvals pursuant to the Construction Products Directive (Council Directive 89/106/CE) and the Act No. 90/1998 of Col.
  • As the Notified body No. 1301 and Approved body SK04, conformity attestation of construction products – issuing EC Certificate of Conformity, EC Certificate of Factory Production Control and corresponding national certtificates pursuant to the Construction Products Directive (Council Directive 89/106/CE) and the Act No. 90/1998 of Coll.
  • As the accredited test laboratory - testing of construction products.

In the area of "Construction structures":

  • Static and dynamic load testing of bridges and other civil engineering and building structures.
  • Static and dynamic calculations of constructions.

In the area of "Installers’ works":

  • Assessment of proficiency of installers to perform special installation works. Issuing licences to installers of the External Thermal Insulation Composite Systems (ETICS).

In the area of "Flaws in constructions":

  • The Institute as an expert organization pursuant to the Act No. 382/2004 of Col. is active in diagnosis and assesment of flaws in buildings, civil engineering structures and construction products.
  • Thermovision diagnosis of flaws in thermal insulation of buildings, heat distribution systems, electric wiring systems and refractory linings of furnaces.
  • Consulting on flaw remediation.

In the area of "Construction machinery":

  • - Conformity assessment of construction machinery and equipments pursuant to the Directive on Machinery (Council Directive 98/37/EC) and the Act No. 264/1999 of Coll. and Government Regulation No. 310/2004 of Coll. - EC type-examination, Certification of adequacy for the technical file and Receipt of technical file.

In the area of "Noise and vibrations":

  • Measurement and assessment of noise in the internal and external environment.
  • Measurement of vibrations and assessment of their of their impact on working conditions and on existing or contingent flaws in building and machinery structures.

In the area of "Strain measurement":

  • Measurement of strain (stress), displacements and and temperatures.

In the area of "Calibration of measuring instruments":

  • Calibration resp. verification of measuring instruments by the accredited metrology laboratory resp. the authorized body.

In the area of "QMS":

In the area of "Building Design":

  • Building design - especially designing elimination of flaws of panel apartment buildings and supplementary thermal insulation of buildings.

In the area of "Energy certification":

  • Energy certification of buildings pursuant to Directive on the Energy Performance of Buildings (Council Directive 2002/91/EC) and the Act No. 555/2005 of Coll.

In the area of "Research and Development":

  • Carrying out research and development projects in the field of building and civil engineering structures and diagnostic and test methods.
